Situations
Outdoor Performance embodies the extreme edge of the Timberland brand and its commitment to the global environment. Timberland wanted a new trade show booth that leveraged their "nutrition label" concept of environmental accountability, minimized negative impact through re-purposed objects, and maximized operational flexibility. Working with design partner JGA, EWI Worldwide created a powerful brand environment using 98% "Earth conscious" materials to convey Timberland's eco-friendly philosophy.

Solution
EWI Worldwide, and its design partner JGA, devised a booth in which every element was selected for its environmental sustainability. The final result is built of 53% re-used, 18% renewable, and 27% recycled materials. These include reclaimed 40' long shipping crates, biodegradable flooring, tiles made of Vibram as found in Timberland footwear, wood produced from pine tree forest scrap without formaldehyde, harvested cork, organic dyes, laminates from waste wood fiber collected during lumber milling, recycled cotton acoustic materials, hemp fabric panels, flakeboard made from strands of self-regenerating hardwood trees, and re-used aluminum. In fact, 88% of the booth can be recycled at the end of its use.

Results
The Timberland Outdoor Performance display won the SNEWS® (Specialty News, a division of Gear Trends Network) Best of Booth Award. More importantly, it properly reflected Timberland's leadership role in environmental sustainability.
