
Situation
EWI Worldwide was challenged to develop a common setting in Detroit's Cobo Arena that would accommodate five distinctly different North American International Auto Show press events over two days.
Solution
The new theatrical set for the Cobo Arena space employed two-tiered staging, multi-level ramps, hydraulic turntables, and hidden entrances. The design enabled the execution of different reveal scenarios for Ford, Lincoln, Aston Martin, Jaguar, and Volvo with almost no changeover time. The audiovisual package rivaled major live concert productions. Five hundred mechanized lights, surround sound audio, and pyrotechnics heightened the drama. A circular LED curtain that displayed motion video effects with a pulsing visual energy was raised and lowered as a reveal device.
To deliver each brand's distinct messages, the stage was dominated by HD projection onto enormous screens. Studio Creative produced video modules for each brand, and combined them with live I-Mag camera feeds of the presenters.
Results
Providing a technical crew of over sixty people to stage, rehearse, and successfully execute events, our Studio Creative service group produced an impressive media response. The world's automotive press was captivated by the intensity and delivery of each press conference.
